3 Advertising Things

1. [info]ordinarywhirled, have you and/or Amy seen the new Target spot, "I like back packs and I cannot lie, with a cell phone pocket on the side."? I think of you every time I see it. So I think about you two a lot. Total Old Navy rip-off, by the way. I would have expected more from Target.

2. It makes me sad that I am using "buy one get one free" as a noun and that's okay. As in, "32-ounce jars of Kraft Mayonnaise are buy one get one free." I know how it SHOULD be phrased, but in this BOGO world, it's just not as catchy. But it is slowly killing me.

3. Have any Memphians (or those familiar with M-town) seen the Levi's spot where the dude is throwing rocks at the hot chicks' windows, then cowering behind cars, then finally hits the old lady's window and she lets him into the laundromat where he left his beloved 501s in the dryer? I swear that's shot Memphis and you can see the neon lights of the Arcade (caddy corner from Earnestine & Hazel's, My Favorite Bar in the World (TM) and the future names of my twin daughters) in the background. Can anyone confirm or deny?

It's not a noun! It's a phrase-as-a-predicate-adjective!

And playing with language is FUN! Why is everyone so down on non-standard English? Think of instead as "intentionally quaint" or even "cutting edge" English.

I know the commercial you speak of. Will pay attention next time to streetscape. Last two times, I just loved the laundrymat lady's facial expressions so much I was memzerized.

I mean "of which you speak".

Gah. You're so right. I am losing grammar points right and left.

I'm all for vernacular, but it's hard for me to break with traditional ways.

There's two shots where you can see the Arcade. It's in the background, but if you know what you're looking for it's pretty obvious.

Hello, zillion years later.

LA Morabito got confirmation too. And everytime I see it now, it's so freaking obvious it might as well have been shot inside my bedroom.

Have you seen the Levi's "Superstitious"? Not quite as good, but some funny moments. I like it when the BF is "doin' the butt" on his GF as she's brushing her teeth.

I have not seen that yet! It does indeed seem Old-Navy derivative. Pooh on them. But YAY! for the Mix-a-Lot.

I think we may be Rax-a-rokeing tonight. Looks like I'll be doing either Journey or Pat. Both scare the bejesus out of me.

GAT, you need to make sure one of your Tampa haunts has "Say, Say, Say," because I can't wait to do it as a duet with ya. Meesa been practicing.

Ernestine and Hazel's

When we were there in May, one of the bartenders told us that they were filming "some" Levi's ads there. That was the reason why the upstairs was closed, I thought. Sadly, I haven't seen the ad yet (they evidently don't run it on the Disney Channel), but I will look for it and others from E and H's, hopefully.
